The Greater New York chapter of the National Society of Arts & Letters facilitates scholarships and competitions including the Naomi Winston Scholarship in Art for young visual artists living in New York State and for nearby states that do not have a NSAL chapter. We accept scholarship applications for artists living in New York and Rhode Island. If you live in another state, check the national NSAL website to determine where to send your application materials.
Please read the directions carefully on the Art Scholarship Application page. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications are due by February 1, 2017.
In honor of Naomi Rabb Winston, NSAL established an annual scholarship fund for young visual artists between the ages of 16 and 22. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional talent and promise of future success. The scholarship funds are only for private study, for special training or for personal advancement in the applicant’s art career. They can be used for workshops, museum programs, summer programs, etc. The funds cannot be used for college tuition, housing or travel. In most years, as many as eight to ten scholarships are awarded in varying amounts.
The National Society of Arts & Letters is a not-for-profit organization that encourages and provides financial assistance to talented young artists at the beginning of their careers. Founded over sixty-five years ago in Washington, D.C., NSAL is comprised of twenty local chapters representing all regions of the United States. Members of NSAL are men and women engaged professionally in the arts, or who want to actively support the work of young artists.
